Independence: FG Declares Tuesday, October 1 Public Holiday



The federal government has declared Tuesday, October 1 as public holiday in commemoration of the 53rd Independence anniversary.The minister of interior, Comrade Abba Moro urged Nigerians home and abroad to build a more united and virile nation that would be the pride of all Nigerians wherever they lived.

The minister enjoined all Nigerians to use the period of the holiday to reflect on the giant strides made by government in the development of the country, especially under the transformation leadership of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The statement also urged all foreign organisations and companies operating in the country to abide by Public Holiday Act of the Federation and allow Nigerian employees in their organisations to observe and enjoy work free day as declared by the federal government.

He reminded such organisations of the Public Holiday Act, CAP P40 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (2004) and rights of all Nigerians to freedom from discrimination.
