President Goodluck Jonathan, is fighting the battle of his political survival as all the dirty politics leading to the 2015 general elections are now taking shape in the corridors of power. Jonathan is already jittery with the way things are going in the PDP. Immediately after the party's convention on Saturday, which was marred by decamping, it became obvious that he is losing out hence he reached out to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who he didn't bother to call before the convention.
Anyway the breakaway political leaders and governors have given Jonathan two conditions:
The Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, Babangida Aliyu and others-led group send their conditions to Jonathan through Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Their two conditions are that Jonathan should step down from running in 2015 and conduct fresh convention. They say failure to do this, no matter the meetings held, will leave them with no choice to join the opposition and ensure the PDP is defeated in their respective states come 2015.
Already, the Speaker of the House of Reps, Aminu Tambuwal is also said to be working closely with the group. Many believe the PDP is no longer a popular party in Nigeria and are ready to damn the consequences and change the status quo.
Jonathan begged Obasanjo on Sunday to help talk with the governors, especially those who visited him in his home. Obasanjo, on his part, said he will try but added that he can't force them if they are not happy.
